"Leading from Where You Are: Influence Over Title"

In today’s world, leadership is too often tied to titles and hierarchy. But true leadership is about influence, not position. Whether you're just starting out, growing into your role, or striving to make a bigger impact, your ability to lead comes from your voice, your actions, and the value you bring.

Join us for a powerful morning with Charmane, who will reframe how we think about leadership and explore how influence is built through everyday moments rooted in relationships, authentic communication, and personal conviction. This session will offer practical strategies to help you:

  • Add value to yourself and your work
  • Serve with humility and purpose
  • Faithfully support and uplift those around you

You’ll leave inspired to lead from wherever you are—no title required.

We look forward to spending the morning with you!

Charmane Higgins
With nearly 30 years of experience in the nonprofit sector, Charmane Higgins is a dynamic and visionary leader committed to equity, social justice, and transformative impact. Since 2019, she has served as the Executive Director of Trinity Boston Connects (TBC), succeeding its Founding Executive Director, Louise Burnham Packard. Under her leadership, TBC continues to expand its vital mission of healing and racial equity for Boston’s youth of color.

A proud BPS kid, Charmane's journey began in the Boston Public Schools system, culminating in her graduation from Boston Latin School. She went on to earn a B.A. in Classical Civilization from Wellesley College and a Master of Arts in Latin from the University of Texas—a testament to her lifelong love of learning and deep appreciation for history and culture.

Charmane’s career is rooted in workforce development, youth empowerment, and nonprofit leadership. She launched her professional journey as the Coordinator of Diversity Education at Southwestern University before returning home to Boston. There, she joined the Boston Private Industry Council, rising to the role of Assistant Director, Operations. She later became a driving force at STRIVE, a social justice nonprofit dedicated to supporting young adults in Boston, where she served as Deputy Executive Director (2005) and later Executive Director (2008–2017).

A trusted mentor and strategist, Charmane has been a consultant to numerous nonprofit organizations and spent 12 years as a Senior Fellow at the Institute for Nonprofit Practice (INP), where she mentored cohorts of emerging nonprofit leaders of color. She maintains a strong connection with Barry Dym, INP’s founder, and continues to champion leadership development in the sector.

Beyond her executive roles, Charmane has shaped nonprofit governance and advocacy through her board service and thought leadership. She is a Past Chair of the Board of Trustees of the Boston Latin School Alumni Association and has held leadership roles with the ACLU of Massachusetts, the Massachusetts Nonprofit Network, and Next Level Social Impact. She has also shared her expertise as an adjunct faculty member at Boston College School of Social Work and Cambridge College.

Charmane’s unwavering dedication to social justice, nonprofit excellence, and community-driven impact continues to shape a more equitable Boston.
