2007 Young Philanthropist Award
Women in Development of Greater Boston
Purpose
The Women in Development of Greater Boston Young Philanthropist Award recognizes and celebrates the contributions of young philanthropists, male or female, who make a difference in advancing the spirit of philanthropy in the greater community. The goals of the award are to recognize a young leader who inspires philanthropy, to highlight a model of philanthropic practice for future generations and to applaud the vital contributions made by a young philanthropist that advance the mission of a nonprofit organization.
Nomination Criteria
The nominee(s) must meet all of the following criteria:
- Assume a leadership role in promoting the mission and sustainability of the primary nonprofit organization served;
- Inspire and motivate others to contribute financially and take on leadership roles that advance the nonprofit organization;
- Demonstrate exceptional charitable responsibility and self-motivation.
Eligibility
An individual, male or female, or group of individuals nominated must:
- Be a high school senior or younger;
- Currently work, volunteer or reside in Massachusetts;
- Not be employed by the nonprofit organization s/he serves;
- Conduct the advancement work with no or minimal help from her/his parents or teachers.
Nomination Process and Selection
- Nomination Deadline is Friday, March 16, 2007.
- Parents/relatives cannot nominate their child/relative or serve as a reference.
- Members of Women in Development and leaders of nonprofit organizations (including board members, executive directors, department heads, principals and heads of schools) can submit nomination forms electronically, by US mail or by fax to:

- WID’s Young Philanthropist Award Committee will review nominees and make a recommendation of the recipient (s) to the WID Board for approval. Self-nominations will not be accepted.
- For all finalist candidates, the Award Committee will call references from the primary nonprofit organization between the dates of March 26 and April 6.
Presentation of Awards
The Young Philanthropist Award will be presented to the recipient (s) during a luncheon program sponsored by Women in Development on Tuesday, May 1, 2007 at the Charles Hotel, located at One Bennett Street in Harvard Square, Cambridge.
During the awards program, WID will present a $1,000 contribution to the award recipient’s primary nonprofit organization in recognition of her/his leadership.

Past Recipients
2006: Tallen Kendall Sloane, Weston, Massachusetts, The Home for Little Wanderers. Tallen inspired hundreds of individuals and secured thousand of dollars of in-kind donations in support of the restoration and renovation of dormitories for youth affiliated with The Home.
2005: Alexandra Azzolino, Acton, Massachusetts, KIDS Kount! Alexandra founded KIDS Kount, a charitable foundation dedicated to helping children with serious illnesses through fundraising events organized by children.
2004: Jenny Whitcher, Topsfield, Massachusetts, Habitat for Humanity Youth United Program. Jenny motivated thousands of students to share her passion for affordable housing.
2003: Rory Conroy and Alexa Gambal, Wellesley, Massachusetts, Afghanistan Sister School Project, Dana-Hall School. Rory and Alexa co-founded the Afghanistan Sister School Project, which secured funding and school supplies for a girls’ school in Kandahar, Afghanistan.
Mission of Women in Development of Greater Boston (WIDGB)
Women in Development of Greater Boston (WIDGB) is a nonprofit professional association of almost 1,000 members whose mission is to promote and support the advancement of women in the development profession and the importance of philanthropy. Today it is one of the largest organizations of advancement professionals in Massachusetts. WIDGB offers a variety of programs, services and opportunities for volunteer involvement. Members help each another develop and improve professional skills, share information about employment opportunities, and foster a climate, which promotes professional achievement.
