2006 Young Philanthropist Award
Women in Development of Greater Boston
Purpose
Women in Development of Greater Boston Young Philanthropist Award recognizes and celebrates the contributions of young philanthropists, male or female, who make a difference in advancing the spirit of philanthropy in the greater community. The goals of the award are to recognize a young leader who inspires philanthropy, to highlight a model of philanthropic practice for future generations and to illuminate the vital contributions made by a young philanthropist that advance the mission of a nonprofit organization.
Nomination Criteria
The nominee (s) must meet the following criteria:
- Assume a leadership role in promoting the mission and sustainability of the primary nonprofit organization served;
- Inspire and motivate others to contribute financially and to take on leadership roles that advance the mission of the nonprofit organization;
- Demonstrate exceptional charitable responsibility and self-motivation.
Eligibility
An individual, male or female, or group of individuals nominated must:
- Be 22 years of age or younger;
- Currently work, volunteer or reside in Massachusetts;
- Not be employed by the nonprofit organization s/he serves;
- Conduct the advancement work with no or minimal help from her/his parents or teachers.
Nomination Process and Selection
All nomination forms must be submitted by Monday, April 3, 2006. Members of Women in Development and leaders of nonprofit organizations (including board members, executive directors, department heads, principals and heads of schools) can submit forms via our Young
Philanthropist Nomination Form.
WID's Young Philanthropist Award Committee will review nominees and make a recommendation of the recipient (s) to the WID Board for approval. Self-nominations will not be accepted. For all finalist candidates, the Award Committee will contact representatives from the primary nonprofit organization for references.
Presentation of Awards
The Young Philanthropy Award will be presented to the recipient (s) during a luncheon program sponsored by Women in Development on Tuesday, May 9, 2006 at the Radisson Hotel, located at 200 Stuart Street in Boston. A contribution will be made to the recipient’s primary nonprofit organization.
Past Recipients
2005: Alexandra Azzolino (14), Acton, Massachusetts, KIDS Kount! Alexandra founded KIDS Kount, a charitable foundation dedicated to helping children with serious illnesses through fundraising events organized by children.
2004: Jenny Whitcher (22), Topsfield, Massachusetts, Habitat for Humanity Youth United Program. Jenny motivated thousands of college students to share her passion for affordable housing.
2003: Rory Conroy (17) and Alexa Gambal (17), Wellesley, Massachusetts, Afghanistan Sister School Project, Dana-Hall School. Rory and Alexa co-founded the Afghanistan Sister School Project, which secured funding and school supplies for a girls’ school in Kandahar, Afghanistan.
Mission of Women in Development of Greater Boston (WIDGB)
Women in Development of Greater Boston is a nonprofit professional association approaching 1000 members whose mission is to promote and support the advancement of women in the development profession and the importance of philanthropy. Today it is one of the largest organizations of advancement professionals in Massachusetts. WIDGB offers a variety of programs, services and opportunities for volunteer involvement. Members help each another develop and improve professional skills, share information about employment opportunities, and foster a climate, which promotes professional achievement.
