2004 Young Philanthropist Award
With hard work, dedication and generosity - Jenny
Whitcher embodies the true meaning of philanthropy and all that
it can achieve. On May 5, 2004 at The Radisson Hotel in Boston,
Women in Development of Greater Boston (WIDGB) honored Jenny
as this year's recipient.

WIDGB selected Jenny Whitcher as the recipient of their 2004
Young Philanthropist Award for her extraordinary philanthropic
work on the issue of affordable housing. Jenny has demonstrated
exceptional charitable responsibility, and has motivated thousands
of young people to share her passion for this issue. As a native
of Topsfield, Jenny has been a philanthropist for more than
half of her life. She got her start on a Habitat for Humanity
Global Village trip to Guatemala when she was 11 years old.
This trip was followed by more than 8 affordable housing and
homelessness work camps in locations such as Hungary, South
Carolina, Haiti, India, El Salvador and Virginia. Jenny was
extremely active as a Habitat volunteer taking consecutive positions
of Vice President and President of her campus chapter, while
studying Journalism at New York University. While pursuing her
degree full-time, she co-founded the Intercollegiate Council
of the Habitat NYC Youth United program and led the fund raising
of more than $10,000 towards a New York City Habitat for Humanity
home during her senior year.
