"Benchmarking: What is it and how can it help me?"

December 9, 2009 - Program Summary

Presenter:  Jay Vogt, Peoplesworth

Jay Vogt relied heavily upon his experience as a consultant as well as Jason Saul’s book titled Benchmarking for Nonprofits to deliver his important and concise message regarding the basics of benchmarking.  He spoke about the differences between internal and external benchmarking, and the importance and benefits of developing and implementing both.  While making plain the advantages of benchmarking to development professionals and stakeholders alike, he cited motivational reasons to take time to develop and study these metrics, including the ability to measure one’s progress over time in order to actually see results even though dollar and participation numbers may stagnate.  To conclude, Jay guided participants through a series of questions and exercises designed to assist professionals in setting up the basics of a benchmarking program at work.
