Speakers: Sarah Christensen, Director of Development Greater Boston Food Bank; Peter Kelly, President Boston Latin School Association; Michele Urbancic, Vice President for Advancement Judge Baker Children’s Center
Join three local area colleagues for an animated discussion and panel presentation on the paths to success taken by three organizations with small development staffs. Representing diverse sectors within the not-for-profit realm, the panelists will share the experiences of their institutions in the recent challenging climate. They will also present lessons they’ve learned and the practices they have employed to ensure their success in an environment that has been challenging to organizations of all sizes and capabilities. Whether you are in a large operation or a small shop, you will certainly come away from this session with ideas to help you better accomplish your work and to ensure your organization’s success.
Sarah Christensen is Director of Development for The Greater Boston Food Bank. Founded in 1981, The Food Bank is the largest hunger relief organization in New England distributing more than 34 million pounds of food and grocery products annually to nearly 600 member hunger-relief agencies throughout eastern Massachusetts in a dedicated partnership to end hunger in our region. In her role at The Food Bank, she is responsible for raising more than $8.5 million annually as well as closing out the last $850,000 to complete its most recent capital campaign, Fighting Hunger, Feeding Hope: The campaign for a new food bank. Christensen's varied professional background includes significant experience in the financial services industry as well as involvement with numerous non-profit entities. She is a past board member of the Latin American Health Institute and Junior League of Boston and is presently a Director of Girls LEAP.
Peter Kelly is President of the Boston Latin School Association, an independent not-for-profit organization that supports the nation's oldest and most storied public school, Boston Latin School. Founded in 1635, BLS today is the largest public school in City of Boston serving more than 2,400 students. The BLSA unites more than 17,000 alumni and friends in support of these talented students. Prior to joining the BLSA, Peter served as Assistant Dean for Development & Alumni Relations at the Boston University School of Management, one of three senior management roles he held at the school over thirteen years. His prior professional experience includes stints at Fidelity Investments and Clark University.
Michele Urbancic is Vice President of Advancement at Judge Baker Children's Center where she leads the team in support of the organization's development and communications functions. Prior to joining the Baker in October 2007, Michele spent six years in development at Boston University, beginning her tenure there as a University Major Gifts Officer and then transferring to the School of Medicine where she became Director of Major Gifts and eventually Associate Director of Development. Michele's background also includes a career with AT&T in the areas of sales, marketing, operations, and international new ventures.
