Women in Development: Celebrating A Quarter Century
The Dialogue Committee Presents:
"Negotiation Skills for Women: Creating Value in
Any Conversation"
This event is sold out.
Speakers: Ruth Shuman, Dean for Institutional
Advancement, Lasell College
Negotiation and conflict resolution skills are an integral
part of being a successful fundraiser and leader. Studies
indicate that women negotiators encounter different context-based
challenges than men, even in today's business world. Ruth
Shuman's presentation will provide you with advice on how
to negotiate in "male" organizational cultures
and how to use both the knowledge of the male view of negotiation
(contest or competition) with the female view of negotiation
(an opportunity to build relationships or community).
Drawing on real-life conversations such as making a major
gift ask or negotiating a salary increase, Ms. Shuman will
help you develop negotiating techniques that will satisfy
your own needs and the needs of those with whom you negotiate.
Join us on November 2nd and learn about the gender of organizations,
the basics of negotiation, and the role of gender in negotiations.
Ruth Shuman directs the public relations, communications,
development and alumni affairs functions at Lasell College.
Prior to joining Lasell in 1998, she served as Associate
Dean for External Affairs at Simmons College Graduate School
of Management (GSM). Ms. Shuman joined Simmons in 1990 as
Director of Career Services where she assisted students
with the career exploration and job search process. In addition
to individual counseling, she conducted career-related workshops
and seminars. She was also a member of the GSM faculty and
taught a course in Career Strategies. Ms. Shuman also worked
in Career Services at Boston University School of Management
and School of Law.
