Women in Development: Celebrating A Quarter Century

The Program Committee Presents:

"Diversity in Nonprofit Leadership"

Speaker: Benaree Wiley is President and CEO of The Partnership, an organization dedicated to increasing the representation of African Americans in positions of leadership, influence and decision making in Boston. Ms. Wiley previously served as a management consultant with firms such as Abt Associates and Contract Research Corp. She is past chair of The Children's Museum, serves on the board of Dreyfus/Laurel Funds, among others, and is a recipient of the Harvard Business School Distinguished Alumni Award. She was selected as one of Boston's most powerful women by Boston magazine.

A "new face of philanthropy" is emerging and fund raisers are beginning to take notice. Gone are the days when philanthropy was largely the purview of affluent White Americans, and minorities were perceived as the beneficiaries of charitable support.

Today's nonprofits realize that in order to carry out their missions, their boards need to reflect the diversity of the communities that they serve. Charitable organizations are also recognizing the need to build new bases of support among African Americans, Asian Americans, Latinos and Native Americans and are finding that members of these communities have a great deal to give back.

Come hear Benaree Wiley describe the work of her organization and how it affects ethnic and racial diversity in non-profit leadership in Boston. Learn about the strategic alliances that the Partnership has built with companies, institutions of higher education and other organizations to help establish a diverse community of leaders whose impact is felt not just in the corporate sector, but also in the nonprofit sector as board members and donors.
