Effective management and leadership of advancement professionals is critical to high performing advancement operations. Over the last couple of years, this important topic has gained traction and momentum. Come listen to two experts in the field of talent management, Sue Paresky of Dana-Farber, one of the leaders in the advancement field who has implemented effective strategies, and Jon Derek Croteau, a senior consultant at Witt/Kieffer who has counseled and advised numerous programs around the country on this critical leadership issue. This session will be a great primer for the March 28-30 Strategic Talent Management Conference taking place in Boston.
Susan S. Paresky is Senior Vice President for the Division of Development and The Jimmy Fund at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. She is responsible for all fundraising and outreach programs at the Institute, including annual funds, major and planned gifts, events and corporate partnerships, and manages a staff of nearly 200. The department recently completed a capital campaign, raising $1.18 billion; funds raised in fiscal year 2010 totaled $154 million.
Ms. Paresky came to Dana-Farber from the Harvard School of Public Health, where she was Associate Dean for Development and executed the School's fundraising program as part of Harvard University's $2 billion campaign. She has also held senior positions at Brandeis University and Wheaton College. Ms. Paresky is a past president of Women in Development.
Jon Derek Croteau's experience in higher education and not-for-profit organizations encompasses assessment, fundraising and campaign planning, administration and human capital management. Based in Rochester, NY, he is a senior consultant with Witt/Kieffer's education and not-for-profit practice. Dr. Croteau has conducted numerous executive searches and human capital assessments for universities, colleges, healthcare organizations, foundations and other not-for-profit groups.
Dr. Croteau has worked with universities around the country, performing a wide range of duties from recruitment to fundraising to succession planning. Most recently, he served as assistant vice president for campaign planning and operations for Carnegie Mellon University. He is the author of The People First Approach, A Guide for Recruiting, Development and Retaining the Right People and the upcoming Making the Case for Leadership: Profiles of the Chief Advancement Officer in Higher Education. Dr. Croteau has been selected the co-chair of CASE's first-ever Strategic Talent Management Conferences in 2011 and 2012.
