Women in Development of Greater Boston

The Program Committee Presents:

"The Essential Partnership: Building a Successful Relationship Between Organization President and Development Staff"

Read the summary from this program

Speakers: Tony Woodcock, President, New England Conservatory; and Don Jones, Vice President for Institutional Advancement, New England Conservatory

The President's Office and the Development Office, friends or foes? During this program, you will learn about the best strategies for creating a successful relationship with your organization's leadership. After hearing reflections from the President of New England Conservatory on topics from donor briefings to staffing while traveling to volunteer management, you will have the opportunity to engage in a dialogue with Tony and two outstanding members of his development staff. Come prepared to ask questions about maximizing this essential partnership for the benefit of your donors and entire organization.

Tony Woodcock is the President of the New England Conservatory. Tony held top positions with the City of London Sinfonia/Richard Hickox Singers, the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, and the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra. In Liverpool, he played a significant role in planning the 150th anniversary and commissioned Paul McCartney to write his first-ever classical piece, "The Liverpool Oratorio." Tony came to the US in 1998, when he was invited to take over the Oregon Symphony. He remained in that position until 2003, when he became President of the Minnesota Orchestra.

Don Jones has been the Vice President for Institutional Advancement at New England of Conservatory since 2002. He has nearly 3 decades of experience in Development and Institutional Advancement and has worked for a number of prominent non-profit healthcare and educational institutions. He started his career with the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and has also served at Life Works, Bentley College, Rhode Island School of Design and Boston University. He has worked in virtually every area of Advancement including special events, annual giving, major and principal gifts, corporations and foundations, public relations, marketing, alumni and board relations.
