Women in Development's Institute for Nonprofits (formerly City Service) is a competitive program dedicated to improving the fundraising skills of small shops.
Since its launch, nearly 100 organizations have benefitted from the program.
The Institute offers six seminars led by fundraising professionals from across the nonprofit spectrum. Some of the past topics covered include individual giving, institutional giving, special events, working with your staff and board, donor communications, websites and social media.
The sessions are geared towards small shops with no more than three full-time development staff. Eligible organizations will have approved or pending 501(c) status, an operating board of directors, and the ability to send two staff or board members to each of the six seminars.
In addition to the seminars, each organization accepted to participate in the program is paired with a mentor who is available as a resource between sessions. Mentors are seasoned fundraisers and members of Women in Development who serve on the planning committee for the program.
Participation also includes extensive resources to supplement the material covered in each seminar and a one-year membership to Women in Development of Greater Boston.
Sessions start at the beginning of each calendar year and run through May. Applications are accepted each fall.
The program welcomes participants of all genders and gender identifications.
