Women in Development of Greater Boston

The Brown Bag Committee Presents:

"How Does Your Board Measure Up?"

Speaker: Betsy Kamborian, Director of Development, Episcopal Divinity School

Join Betsy Kamborian as she describes ten characteristics of a healthy and effective board and how you can help your board acquire them. Do you sit in board meetings watching as your board wastes precious time discussing operations instead of policy? Or permitting ego-driven members to control the agenda? Find out how you, as development officer, can affect board governance and encourage good habits of board behavior. You will learn how to identify both dysfunctional board processes and disruptive board members and respond with persuasive and positive strategies.

Betsy Kamborian has served on numerous boards for over 25 years, including educational, professional and social organizations. She has served as president of three organizations, including Women in Development. She enjoys serving on boards not only for the opportunity to support organizations she believes in but also because of her interest in discovering the characteristics of the successful board. From her experience, she has identified a set of trustee archetypes that prevent a highly functioning board and has developed strategies to counter their influence. Betsy has re-written the by-laws of too many organizations to mention. Betsy is the Director of Development at Episcopal Divinity School in Cambridge. She is a lawyer, having worked in Washington, DC for many years.
