Women in Development: Celebrating A Quarter Century

Speakers: Steven McAlister is a development
officer with over ten years of experience in volunteer management
and fundraising. Prior to joining MIT in 2002, Steve built
a foundation of experience at organizations including Dartmouth-Hitchcock
Medical Center, Boston University and Northeastern University.
Today, Steve directs a program which for more than half
a century has engaged MIT volunteers and donors and continues
to support the Institute's unique educational mission.
Sheree Galpert is a professional actor, writer,
educator, and organization development consultant. Sheree's
areas of expertise include leadership development, conflict
management, presentation skills, customer service, and sexual
harassment prevention. Clients include Simmons College,
Harvard University, PricewaterhouseCoopers, Raytheon, the
Women's Bar Association, Cayuga Medical Center, and the
United Nations Federal Credit Union.
Soliciting individuals for their time or money is a combination
of art and science. Whether you are new to the field or
looking to refresh your solicitation skills, this interactive
workshop will provide a great opportunity to enhance your
confidence as a fundraiser.
Attendees will be guided through a variety of techniques,
strategies, and scenarios in "Making the Ask."
You will learn how to engage donors and have the opportunity
to hone your new solicitation skills in role play activities.
Steven McAlister and Sheree Galpert will coach participants
as they identify what techniques works best for them as
fundraisers.

Boston Children's Museum is close to Boston's major highways
and easily accessible by public transportation, including
the T, commuter rail, (Red Line, South Station Stop), bus
and even water shuttle. For directions including various
T and walking directions, please visit The

is available at the Farnsworth St. Garage for $8 (info on
museum web site). Several open-air, reduced rate parking
lots are also available nearby after 5PM.
Cost: $10 for WID members; $15 for non-members,
late registration (after 2/8/05).
