Meet the President - Betsy
Kamborian
Betsy Kamborian has been involved in fund-raising for over
25 years, first as a volunteer and later as a professional.
Her first project in fund-raising was to design an annual fund
for a private school in Washington, DC in the 70's. She was
later elected to its board and in time became its president.
Over the next 25 years, she regularly raised money for educational
institutions at the secondary and university level, directing
or participating in capital campaigns, major and special gifts,
planned giving, telethons and special events. After raising
record funds from the Mid-Atlantic region during the Dana Hall
Centennial Campaign, she was elected to the Dana Hall Board.
In 1989, she designed the first-ever reunion for her business
school at the University of Chicago, planning and organizing
the program and raising reunion gifts.
In 1998, Betsy left the practice of law to join Judge Baker
Children's Center as Director of Development where she revitalized
a dormant development program, created giving programs, and
increased income. She also streamlined the database, designed
and launched a website, and designed brochures, annual reports
and other informational material. In addition, she managed special
events, public relations and board relations.
Since leaving Judge Baker, Betsy has consulted in the field
of development, working in executive recruitment and advising
non-profits on a variety of organizational and fund-raising
efforts. In her career, both in Washington and in Boston, she
has been drawn to designing new programs and has been asked
to direct organizational efforts in non-profits and in the White
House.
In the years before becoming a development professional, Betsy
worked as a lawyer in Washington, DC, in international law,
securities and tax , and was involved in four presidential campaigns.
She worked in the Carter White House and several government
agencies. She also spent several years as a public affairs director/spokesperson
and as an account manager with a national public relations firm.
Betsy has served on numerous community and educational boards
and currently serves as president of Women in Development, and
is a member of the boards of Dress for Success, the New England
Beetle Catboat Association, the South Yarmouth Association and
the Bass River Yacht Club.
Betsy holds a B.A. from the University of Chicago, a J.D.
from Georgetown and an M.B.A. from the University of Chicago.
