WID’s Institute for Nonprofits
Women in Development’s Institute for Nonprofits, formerly City Service, is an annual program designed to help small nonprofits take their fundraising to the next level.
The program consists of six seminars geared towards small shops with no more than three full-time development staff. The sessions are held in the evening, in downtown Boston, and are 3 1/2 hours long.
Some of the topics covered include:
- Individual giving, donor relations, special events, foundation and corporate relations, board development, strategic planning, social media, and technology.
In addition to the seminars, each organization accepted to participate in the program is also paired with a mentor who is available as a resource between sessions. Mentors are members of WID who serve as volunteers on the planning committee for the program.
Participation in the program also includes a one-year membership to WID of Greater Boston.
Sessions start at the beginning of each calendar year. Applications are accepted in the fall. Accepted nonprofits pay $195 for two organizational representatives to participate in the program.
If you are interested in volunteering for the committee or if your nonprofit is interested in participating in the program, please contact Tina Cincotti (

What do past participants have to say about the program?
"I wanted to thank you for involving NTSAD in this program. We had an event at someone's home last week which went well. Thanks to what we learned at the Special Events seminar, we've already followed-up with all the attendees. I also appreciate your quick and thorough responses to my many questions, either in person or by email. You all are clearly the development experts."

"East Somerville Main Streets would like to express our gratitude to the entire Committee for your commitment to expanding the capacity of small non-profits. This has been a top-notch seminar series and we thank you for all the time and thought that went in to planning it."
